I was 48 when I had my RNY.   The day after surgery was the "I wa**** by a mack truck" day for me.  But, after that it was pretty much smooth sailing.  Good Luck !!!

I found for myself at 44 and others I have talked to that being somewhat actvie prior to surgery is one of the best things a person can do. Depending on your health, walking as much as possible prior to surgery can help post op recovery. I was up and walking relatively normal the very next day. As for the skin, exercise again is key. I cant speak to the creams and lotions, never tried them. Water is another key component. We Americans are really into our sodas but plain water is the best not only for skin elasticity concerns but for the weight loss itself. It flushes out the crud after the fat has been metabolized. Protein is important for our weight loss but without enough water protein can be hard on the kidneys and the liver. I found crystal lite to help with the flavor boredom tha****er alone can bring.

you're in for a ride!!!

So yea, i will have skin hanging but it doesn't look so bad YET !  Everyone says i look a lot younger now.

I was 47 when I had it and I'm now 54. My arms went back almost to normal.  I had a tummy tuck and breast lift.  I sort of depends on your gene pool and your size regarding your skin.  Good luck, it has been AWESOME for me.

I was 52 when I had my RNY done. It was a little hard getting through it but I had great support and also all my friends here at OH.
My only regret was that I did not have it done earlier, but I do not beleive it was as safe years ago.
As for the skin issue, it is true we lose elasticity, and it is impossible to exercise enough to keep up with the weight lose.
I have lost 150 pounds since 2/8/06, went from a size 24 to a 6 or 8. I had plastic surgery 11/2 years ago, arm reduction and breast reduction with lift. I still want to have tummy tuck and thigh lift, but I want that done with a groan type cut. I just have this thing about a huge cut down my leg.
Best wishes to you.

I had my surgery July 31, 2008 at the age of 42, absolutely no problems at all.  I am a little flabby, but I was not looking to be in a bikini either, just wanted to be healthy and around for my son when he is older.  Everyones skin is different, if you were in the sun alot, that can damage the elasticity in your skin. My stomache is definately the worst, I just joined the YMCA and am hoping to tone up my legs and arms, I probably should have started sooner, but never had the time so I usually just walk.  Good luck.

I had the surgery almost a year ago & I was 39 (yup - I'm now in the 40+ club)

One of the main reason that people need plastic after is that they loose SO MUCH WEIGHT.

So far I've lost 95 lbs (and have about another 20 to go) & truthfully, I dont have any sagging skin.  I think if I lost 150lbs...I'd prob need plastic surgery, so the best answer is....it depends.

My one year anniv is this week & I'm gonna have my hubby take pics of me in my sports bra / gym shorts to compare to a pic I took in July of me at 5 mths post op.  Check back on my profile to see

EDIT - I've needed a boob lift for the last 10 yrs - loosing the weight had nothing to do with me wanting them done.

I am almost 60 and had surgery Oct. 2, 07 and I feel great and my only complaint is the skin on my neck and face.  I know the insurance won't pay for that.  what can I do.  It makes me look 90 in my pictures.  I got so depressed this last week I just sat and cryed and wrote my friends on here of course.
